X-Ray
X-Ray reveals ores, chests, and specified blocks through solid terrain by hiding or dimming the blocks that would normally occlude them. It is the most widely used visual module and one of the oldest — X-Ray packs predate modern clients.

What it does
X-Ray modifies the client's rendering pipeline to hide or dim blocks that are not on a whitelist. Configurable options:
- Block whitelist — which blocks remain visible (ores, chests, spawners, etc.).
- Mode — full hide, dim, or outline.
- Opacity — how transparent non-whitelisted blocks appear.
- Distance — maximum render distance for revealed blocks.
Client support
| Client | Status | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Wurst | Yes | Block whitelist and opacity control |
| Meteor | Yes | Full whitelist management |
| LiquidBounce | Yes | Multiple rendering modes |
| Aristois | Yes | Multi-version support |
| Raven | Yes | Visual category module |
Server compatibility
- Hypixel — Restricted. Server rules prohibit it. Detection is client-side, but ore obfuscation reduces effectiveness.
- 2b2t — Permitted. No anti-cheat and no ore obfuscation, so X-Ray is fully effective.
- CubeCraft — Restricted. Server rules prohibit it.
Detection behavior
X-Ray operates client-side, which means the server cannot see what you are rendering. The main counter-measure is ore obfuscation: the server sends fake block data so ores only appear when they are physically exposed. Servers using ore obfuscation make X-Ray less useful but not detectable.
Some servers also monitor mining patterns — if a player digs straight to diamonds without visible exploration, they may be flagged for review.
Known limitations
- Ore obfuscation on some servers hides ores until exposed, defeating X-Ray.
- Rendering distance limits what is visible even with X-Ray enabled.
- Anti-cheat behavior is not the primary risk — server moderation based on mining patterns is.
